NewJeans' interview with foreign press, more direct than translated posts, criticizes HYBE
Hanni:
It’s been very hard for us to kind of properly express our point of view. Because, well, it seems that HYBE has a lot of power and control over the Korean media. We’re just really thankful that a lot of media outlets from overseas have gotten interest into our situation, that actually are open to hearing what we have to say and how we feel about the situation and just everything about our side.
Hanni:
The reason we put all these issues up and we start speaking on everything is because we’re just against the morals of HYBE and how the company functions and works. It’s not the type of company we want to stay in and neither do we need to stay there. There’s no, like there’s no must for us. And also, there’s just like, a very structural problem in K-pop in general where companies don’t really view their artists an actual human beings and rather see them as products. It’s like people are aware of it, but I don’t think people are aware of how far that issue actually goes until someone starts talking about it. I just hope that other people who might be in a similar situation as us have the courage to, you know, like, they could, they have every right to speak up, if they’re going through something that’s not right and that’s discriminating against them, or like kind of, being prevented from voicing their opinion or like, their identity as a person, as a human being is being ignored because the focus of the company is based on financial growth.
Danielle:
Like, for the K-pop industry to really change and be able to push forward in a positive way. I think they have to create an environment for their artists to really be creative and think freely about what they want to do and be able to, you know, speak out about their thoughts. Yeah, what we’ve been through although it was a very tough time and although it was very mentally challenging for us. I feel it’s all worth it in the end because it’s not only us. There’s so many people out there that are going through similiar situations.
Haerin:
Actually, our nature is no different. I think that as NJZ, we can show more creative freedom and scope, as well as our new goals as NJZ. And we will also show you more exciting music and impressive performances as NJZ, so I think you will be able to see our new goals and direction on stage at the upcoming ComplexCon. That stage is not just a performance, but also the first step in a new direction for us as NJZ. I think it will be a very meaningful moment for both our fans and us.
